I was so excited to do this special one-day workshop on“Building a Platform that Will Help You Sell Books” for about 20 eager writers in Easton this past weekend.
Hosted by the Eastern Shore Writers Association, the all-morning interactive workshop gave the participating authors a simple five-step roadmap to self-publishing success. In today’s highly saturated book market, a strong publicity and marketing campaign requires that authors have a solid platform to get the kind of attention necessary for sales. But what is a platform, what is it used for, and how do you build one? How does it affect your book deal, or whether you get one at all? How does it help you sell more books, whether you self-publish or have a publisher? I taught attendees how to evaluate the “planks” they already have and design a blueprint for building a bigger, stronger platform—the most critical tool in the author’s toolbox after the book itself.
Here’s what a few attendees had to say:
Ally Machate’s workshop for the Eastern Shore Writers Association was a complete success. Her outstanding knowledge of the publishing field was a revelation. Comments included ‘Loved the workshop,’ ‘Got some good ideas and have more of a direction in being a published author,’ and ‘Excellent practical information. Delivery engaging.’ I could go on Ally but I’m blushing for you.”—Gerald Sweeney, ESWA President
The workshop was terrific…I was glad of an opportunity to see you in action. No wonder you get such high marks at the Bay To Ocean Writers Conference.—Mala Burt, award-winning coauthor of Big Skye Ranch, www.amblerburt.com
Great workshop! Got a lot of notes, got some great ideas, and I have more of a direction in being a published author.— Anonymous
I love using my insider knowledge of the publishing industry and 14+ years of experience to help others, whether it’s showing writers how to improve their manuscripts, get an agent, or self-publish, or ghostwriting books to help entrepreneurs enhance their business platforms. Thank you so much to Jerry Sweeney for inviting me to teach this workshop and to Suzi Peel for her help in organizing things.
