“Which Editor Do You Need?” at the Washington Writers Conference – May 13, 2023

Please join us on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 for the Washington Writer’s Conference. This event will be held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center at 5701 Marinelli Road, Rockville, MD 20852.

Hosted by the Washington Independent Review of Books, the conference includes numerous talks and panels, including “Which Editor Do You Need?”, featuring our very own Ally Machate. Here are the details:

Get your questions ready for top book editors Ally Machate and Katherine Pickett. In this session, Ally and Katherine will give you the inside scoop on the types of freelance editors available to you, what they do, why you might need them, and how you can make the most of the editing experience. We’ll discuss developmental editors, line editors, copy editors, and proofreaders. There will be plenty of time for Q&A with this dynamic duo, so come prepared. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how editors can help them achieve their dreams of publication.

All the conference information and registration is available on the Washington Independent Review of Books website. Hope to see you there, and be sure to say hi if you attend!

Choosing the Right Editorial Service for You – Washington Writers Conference – May 11, 2019

Choosing the right editorial service for you and your book at the Washington Writers Conference.

Do you want practical publishing advice but aren’t ready to pitch to agents or meet with experts? Need help with choosing the right editorial service to prepare your draft? This year, the Washington Writers Conference is also for you!

For the first time in 7 years, the event will feature expert sessions with publishing pros, including editors and publicists, and up-close author talks, in addition to the traditional pitch sessions. Whatever stage you’re in with your writing — just starting, in the middle, or ready with a manuscript — this year’s conference will offer you a chance to move forward.

Ally is excited to be a nonfiction guest expert this year and is leading a small group discussion on Saturday, May 11th at 10:00 am followed by one-on-one meetings starting at 11:00 am.

The small group discussion will be organized around the topic of “Choosing the Right Editorial Service for You.” Every year more than a million books are published. To get an edge against these overwhelming odds, many writers hire freelance editors to review their manuscripts before self-publishing or pursuing book deals. But with freelancers offering everything from rewriting to reviewing, how does one choose the right editorial service? Ally will discuss everything you need to know to have a happy and successful freelance experience.

One-on-one sessions are 12 minutes each and may be booked separately, with a focus on advising you on how to proceed with writing or publishing your nonfiction book.

The 2019 Washington Writers Conference is happening on May 10-11, 2019 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road, North Bethesda, MD 20852. To register, click here for more details.
